My classroom consists of 6th-8th-grade students who have not quite found the love of reading, or are struggling with some aspect of reading comprehension. Students need a book to love, something to motivate them to learn, and activities that keep them engaged. In my classroom students are encouraged to read a variety of texts. We have a wealth of fiction and non-fiction books in my class library. We are trying to update the library to include more graphic novels. The needs of the 6th-8th graders coming through our schools today have changed, they learn different from previous generations, they want a different style of book. A classroom that offers graphic novels will reach even the most reluctant reader. Current middle school readers need to be engaged in activities that keep them moving as well as intrigued in the curriculum. My class is designed to reach all learning styles.
