Kids learn best with hands-on materials. Using math manipulatives helps them to visually and physically see what they are learning. Most of my kids are visual and kinesthetic learners. Having math manipulatives will increase their capacity to comprehend and apply their newly learned skills. Having physical books to read will improve their learning by keeping them focused and engaged. Having their own copy of books to follow along with as I read aloud will increase their retention of the stories. This will also allow them to see the words and understand how they should be pronounced and how dialog should be heard and read.
