Students may not find success in every subject, but some shine most brightly in the art room. Students with hands-on learning experiences like working with clay in a ceramics course are energized. Engaging students in the process of education is challenging; for some teachers, it is nearly impossible. It is rewarding to have the opportunity to teach a subject that inspires passion in some students. Art is a project-based experience where each child is expected to solve a two or three-dimensional problem, and develops skills that are useful in real world scenarios. Creative problem solving skills practiced in a project-based classroom are valuable to most employers. In the upcoming trimester, Magnolia School will be offering students a dedicated ceramics course for the first time in decades. It is an exciting but expensive prospect. We have installed a recycled kiln from another school site, but are in desperate need of low-fire clay, glazes/underglazes, and clay tool supplies. Please support our classroom and help train young minds by allowing them to create something beautiful and useful they will cherish forever.
