We need some laptop computers in our classroom. My students are in 7 groups of 4. With each group having access to a laptop, students will be able to create stimulation of atoms and molecules at the atomic level and determine how they move, react, and bond with each other. This is especially important since most of my students do not speak English as a first language and it is very difficult to grasp the concept of atomic theory without being able to see the atoms move or understand fully the language of the text/teacher. These laptops will also be used for students to create presentations of their labs, projects, and research projects to better their communication and research skills. This project will significantly even the playing field for my students by allowing them to understand the particulate nature of matter, growing their knowledge base in the field of chemistry. They will be able to grasp what is happening on the microscopic level and use that knowledge to predict what will occur on the macroscopic level. This higher level of critical thinking will prepare them for high school and college-level work.
