My music classes consists of a lot of activities that have to do with reading and notating music. Beginning with reading music can be difficult, but with the boomwhackers and desk bells, I can better differentiate my instruction. Each tube and bell is a specific color based on the note name that it has. Every C is red, every D is blue, and so on and so forth. I believe that the color association with the notes is a very successful route when teaching students how to read notes on the staff. Giving them the visual of where the note is on the staff and what color it is can help them keep the picture in their heads when the colors are gone. This will help them to be able to identify which note they are reading on the staff.
