"I teach preschool in a neighborhood school attended by students who are either in foster care, homeless, or qualify based on the Federal poverty guidelines. My entire class receives free breakfast and lunch. My young learners suffer from many serious affects of poverty such as coming to school without the proper clothing for the season. Since my students are without so many essentials, my school works to provide access to as many basic necessities as possible. I strive to provide all my students with a strong beginning foundation that includes early childhood education, health and nutrition, as well as active parental support and education. Each day I work to eliminate the achievement gap before it starts!”
