I'm a Special Education teacher in a center-based program for students with Autism. My students require significant supports not only academically, but also in the areas of fine motor, language, social skills and behavior. Many of my students face sensory challenges that can make learning extremely difficult. Sensory challenges can affect their ability to take in information, respond to requests, participate in social situations, write and maintain a calm and ready to work state. I became a Special Education teacher because I wanted to serve and empower the families of children with disabilities. I wanted to be an advocate for those who need it most. My students and their families are the strongest, bravest people I know. My students have taught me more about life, humility and strength than I could ever teach them. I'm blessed to get to spend my days with the best kids on the planet!
