The goal of “Bibliophiles in the Making!” is to make available a larger selection of novels and informational texts for my students. During their independent reading time, they often search for texts that spark their interests. My library has a selection, but not a large selection. These books would be available right in the classroom. The texts would help students to improve their volume of reading in an effort to raise and/or maintain their level of reading to mastery and advanced. This ability to read more and more often will also enhance the vocabulary of all students. Reading is the best way for students to increase their range of vocabulary. Kelly Gallagher lists other reasons why extensive reading time and materials should be available to students: it increase the ability to write, it makes one smarter, it prepares one for the world of work, and it opens the door to college and beyond.
