My students are a small group of low-income African American middle school special education students attending a charter school on the south side of Chicago. Approximately 93% of students at my school are low income and many do not have regular access to computers or the Internet. All of my students have learning disabilities which vary in type and severity but all are learning at least 2 years below grade level in all subject areas. Their specific learning needs require them to be taught in ways that are different from those used in a regular classroom and methods often need to be more dynamic and interactive in order to reach these students at their level. However, these students are fun loving, curious, and enjoy exploring and learning in new and different ways.
