The students will be so excited to be able to mold their own Lenape pinch pots and decorate them. The pottery will be part of their end of unit exhibit on the Northeastern Indians. Having an actual item that they created will definitely motivate students to continue to learn about the people of the past. The students will learn about the uses of pottery and how the Native Americans used the earth to create the pottery. Students will also learn about the different Native American symbols. Students will then create a pinch bowl using clay , paint the bowl, and finally add symbols, such as a clan symbol. Theses bowls will be showcased in our final presentation to parents, and will later be displayed throughout the school . Hopefully, we will have enough paint left over to create additional projects , such as story skins.
