My students and I read a nonfictional narrative text last year and they absolutely loved it. Students who said they hated reading or would never have read the text on their own were riveted as we got through the story. I want more of that engagement for my students; I want them to see that Language Arts is more than grammar, and to understand history as more than dates and numbers; I want them to see the connection between past, present, and future through stories. This text will help me convey those ideas while keeping students intrigued.
