Music program in a large urban high school: Our grade 9-12 high school with over 4000 students has a flourishing music department that services all students for their required music credits as well as offering a sequence of performing ensembles for vocal and instrumental music. Students who have never had a previous opportunity can choose to sing in a beginning chorus, learn a band instrument, guitar or piano. For students with previous musical training there is a sequence of choral, band and orchestral groups which can prepare students for college, community and lifelong musical opportunities. Many of our music students participate in a unique interdisciplinary music theater project each semester performing a full-length musical or operetta. This is in conjunction with the language arts (drama), physical education (dance), fine arts (set and costumes), music (vocal and orchestra).
