The cooking class at CMS is part of our after-school program. The after-school program is free to participate in and the cooking class is one of the students' most favorite and well-attended classes. In the cooking class, students learn reading comprehension and valuable math skills along with learning how to cook. Currently, our cooking class has cooking items and utensils that have been donated or purchased second-hand. Since we do not have a large budget, it is difficult to purchase quality cooking materials like pots and pans and utensils and purchase the ingredients needed to complete recipes. In particular, the class was recently completing a recipe for fudge and while heating the ingredients in one of the saucepans, the inside coating of the saucepan started to come off. As a result, the students had to throw away the fudge because it contained the pan's coating. CMS students learn valuable skills from participating in the cooking class such as following directions, problem solving, and reading and math skills. In addition, one of the students' favorite part of the cooking class is being able to eat what they make. If we are unable to replace the whisks, measuring spoons, mixing bowls, cooking sheets, pots and pans, and cutting boards with new items the cooking class would be at risk of being cancelled. Please consider donating to our project so we can keep our after-school cooking class.
