Our school is a Title I, high poverty school in eastern North Carolina. Most of our students receive free lunch and do not have access to books at home. I hope to be able to create a culture of reading in my classroom that will inspire my students to change the world we live in. Our school mission is "Explore the world. Be the change." That is what I want for my students. I am also hoping that by engaging them in rich texts they will desire to break out of the cycle of poverty that many of them are in right now. All students can learn and be successful, some just need more support and inspiration than others. My class is like sponges and absorb everything I give them. They are so excited to explore the world around them. Reading makes all the difference.
