The most important part of my students' day is during guided reading groups. This is the time I am able to work with students in a small group setting. I am able to hear each student read individually while I provide teaching points, encouragement, and corrections based on each student's needs. It is critical that I am able to easily physically reach each of my 4-6 students in each group. I need to be able to see what they are reading, to listen in as they whisper read, and to be able to have a quiet dialogue with them while their group mates continue reading. Having a u-shaped table will enable me to physically reach each student as I listen to them read and as I encourage and correct them as necessary. My students will be able to sit right next to me all at the same time! I will be able to listen to them read and provide help when needed.
