My students are special, not only because they are atypical students, but more importantly because each and every one of them has unique abilities and talents that we are able to focus on and use to their advantage. A portion of my students experience difficult home lives including, but not limited to; divorced families, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and being homeless. It is important to me to provide a safe and predictable environment for my students to come to on a daily basis. They need their basic emotional needs met first in order to be good students. All of my students require individualized, specially designed instruction in order to help them succeed. When they come to the Extended Resource Room, my assistants and I are able to focus on their individual strengths and needs to support their overall learning.
