The growth my students have made since 5th grade fills me with an overwhelming pride. But before they move on to high school, I must make good on my promise to them and their families that all students will be be prepared for excellent high schools and college. This means ensuring that they are not only reading on grade level but are able to comprehend and analyze a variety of texts so they can compete at the best private schools in the state. It is my responsibility to expose them to great literature and help them develop a love of reading and writing. My students are passionate and creative. Many have grown up around trauma and have turned those experiences into strength and compassion. They deserve a rich school library with access to books that have characters who have experienced the same challenges.
