"It's too much and too long! I won't be able to finish in time." Does this sound familiar? Or perhaps, "What time is it? How much time is left?" These are only the beginning challenges of my special needs students. Perhaps you have seen students staring up at a wall clock and thinking, "Wow, that kid is really daydreaming." Well, not really, they are more likely trying to count each minute notch on the clock to see how many minutes they have to work, test, or perhaps leave their class for gym or lunch or home. My students are eager to be part of the class and do the right thing, but they are aware that they are functioning at a slower pace than their peers. Instead of embracing the minutes allotted to them, they sit in fear of never completing their work . They spend their precious time trying to count what's left or guess when something expected will occur.
