My students need to stay active in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Outdoor adventure activities offer students an opportunity to learn how to be active throughout their lives. My outdoor program has gained in popularity as students seek out new activities that they normally would not have the chance to experience. Students in my classroom Mountain Bike, Kayak, Scuba Dive, Rock Climb, and Camp. My school does not have technology that can be used while being active. GoPro cameras can be attached to helmets as well as brought into and under the water. These cameras would provide students the ability to capture amazing first experiences and be able to relive them through video and stills. Students who are non-competitive or have never experienced outdoor adventure activities are signing up to take my class. Those students in the competition are finding a way to compete with themselves or finding the pure enjoyment in just participating. Helping students begin to break down the skills necessary to safely and successfully participate in these activities can be accomplished more effectively with GoPro cameras. Reflection on skill performance and execution is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in rock climbing and aquatic activities. Students are assigned partners who they work with to peer assess in order to provide the feedback necessary to improve performance. What becomes a problem is the fact that students have a difficulty describing what they saw and we all know a picture can speak a thousand words. There is also a great feeling when you can bring back your experience to family and friends by showing them videos of your adventures. By donating to our project, you will help motivate students and increase their success in school and in life.
