Special Education is a very unique setting with students who have very specific and unique learning needs. Most of their Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) have accommodations that require technology. Some of these include: (1) audio recordings, (2) visual aids, (3) hands-on experience, (4) voice recognition aids and (5) motivational games. Two main areas my students struggle with the most is math fluency and reading comprehension. Having taught for over 10 years, I know first hand how difficult it is for students with disabilities to understand what they are reading and also be able to perform mathematical operations that involve fast response. Therefore, I am requesting 8 Chromebooks and 8 education licenses in order to enable them to have access to Google Play for Education, apps and audio books. This will also aid to have an alternate testing location for state required testing which is all done on computers. On these Chromebook devices, students with reading difficulty will be able to listen to stories as they read along, have access to fun and meaningful math games that will increase their Math Facts skills, and have access to automatic feedback and corrections that they need to provide meaningful explanation of their mistakes. Ultimately, this added technology in my classroom would help provide my students with an increased ability for learning and help aid them in reaching their academic goals. Also, I would be able to check for student understanding more promptly and students engagement would increase.
