When my second and third graders enter my room, I want to make sure they feel as welcome and at home as possible. I can do this by providing them their own personal space in the learning area. The carpet that I requested will help me achieve the goal of maximizing learning time by eliminating distractions. These distractions may be trying to find a spot or even having another student too close to them. Each student will have their own square to sit on which will provide their own personal space. Research suggests that students need to have their personal needs met in order to learn. With the feeling of spot ownership and knowing where they sit, students are ready to learn. Also, transitions to and from the carpet can really cut down learning time. If everyone knows where they sit on the carpet the transitions can be seamless. Please help out my second and third grade class by pitching in to get this carpet! With this carpet, our learning time will be at it highest. Without it, I fear that we will have so much lost learning time because students will be confused about where they sit and feel that their personal space is being impeded on. Help me make my classroom the best it can be!
