The materials and supplies I am requesting will help me to teach an integrated science, social studies, math, language arts, and technology program at my school. It is my hope that teaching students in this new way will spark interest in spreading the program in the school. The project is divided into two distinct parts. There is a research and presentation component that incorporates science and social studies as well as a technology component that meets Next Gen science standards. In the research project, students will learn to investigate a real world problem involving animal and human interactions. They will research problems that exist and design their own solutions to these problems. In addition, students will learn to negotiate with members of their groups and present their findings to people who can help them make a difference. In the table game, Lego Mindstorms EV3 Robots will be used to teach students coding and engineering strategies. In addition, they will conduct scientific investigations on how to make their robot achieve goals in the First Lego League table game. Students will research how animals and humans are allies and solve problems surrounding their interaction all while programming a robot in small learning groups. By providing more robots, more time can be devoted to hands on application.
