My students hate to read! It is really hard to engage military school kids who are given one last chance to get it together. Many cadets at our school have been sent here because they have not succeeded at their previous schools. Now they are expected to pick themselves up and must undo years of bad habits. Luis J Rodriguez writes about similar setbacks. I read this book with a class in a South LA school. The impact was incredible. I would love to teach this again with the students that I have now. I have many ideas for great writing projects to go with this text.
