Literature circles are an effective, engaging way to teach reading. My students are divided into small groups of 4-7 students. Each student is responsible for their reading and an assigned task/role for our literature circle meetings. My students feel a sense of responsibility and independence when completing literature circles. Also, students that struggle with reading or socializing shine in a small group setting. My students love dogs and will "dig" this round of literature circles, as it focuses on dogs in literature. We will be discussing how the dog character affects the events in the story and discussing point of view.
