I want to provide my students with books that they can read about cultures beyond the typical Shakespearian play and about stuff that interests them! It's my hope that I can get at least two class sets (30 books per class) so that my students can read, enjoy, and discuss this book together. The research is indisputable - reading about multiple cultures and backgrounds helps students from all backgrounds! “Multicultural literature also creates a community within the classroom because students learn not only the differences tolerated, they are also embraced. This will help to cut down on the bullying and teaching that takes place in the classroom. Students will be better able to work harmoniously in groups” (Boles, M. (2006). The Effects of Multicultural Literature in the Classroom. Digital Commons @ EMU, Paper 62.) These supplies typically come from the classroom teacher's own pockets. We struggle to choose between our needs and fulfilling our ideals as teachers. Donations can help take us beyond our typical limitations. Thanks for your help!
