The students in my classroom all live in Paterson, NJ. Although Paterson is none for being an area with high crime rates and high poverty levels, my students are wonderful children who come in everyday ready to learn. My students are from a variety of nationalities, cultures, religions, and races, although they are primarily Spanish and African American. Paterson has also become a center of Muslim and Arab culture as well. My students are all four to five years of age. Many of my students have IEPs for Special Educational services, such as speech, resource, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. I have also found that many of my students come from homes with few educational resources available. I want my classroom to be a positive initial school experience filled with hands on learning, various materials and books, a place to learn about social emotional well being, and a place to discover who they really are.
