My students love science and hands on projects, but we have limited resources in our classroom to do such activities regularly. This project will provide my classroom with STEM activity kits from Lakeshore Learning to last for the majority of the year on our STEM DAY FRIDAYS - a day set aside to explore these types of hands-on projects. These kits include activities to allow students to explore such activities as building a structure that can withstand an earthquake, creating a freshwater filter, creating a robot hand that can grasp a ball, building a roller coaster, and creating a circuit. With the help of these kits, we can bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics alive in our classroom while allowing students to build critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities. These kits will make it easy to implement on my part since they come with all the parts and directions, which in turn will allow the students more opportunities to explore different concepts. Funding this project will allow me to accomplish a goal of mine - which is to inspire my students to be critical thinkers and solve problems independently without much coaching.
