I have noticed that the students in my classroom love to move, and that this love of movement sometimes makes staying focused on learning challenging. After reading many educational journals and articles about how to best accommodate these learners I noticed a trend, kids needs to be able to move! So, I decided that I need to design a learning environment that encourages movement while learning. I am requesting the materials to create a learning environment full of distraction free movement, so that the students can focus on learning. Movement will encourage learning and critical thinking in our classroom! Resistance bands, on the bottoms of chairs, will allow students to kick and wiggle their feet without distracting others. This will allow them to exert the energy that they need to focus on learning. Bitty Bottom seat cushions will allow students to wiggle and move in their seats without distracting their neighbors. These cushions will also encourage students to sit upright, with correct posture, while learning. Bike pedals under students' desks will allow students to pedal their way to success while staying focused on learning. Students will also be able to take a "brain break", in my classroom, up to twice a day, for 2 minutes at a time, to "bounce" on the mini trampoline. This will allow students to increase blood flow to their brains and then get back to work. The timers would be used to limit access to this privilege in the classroom, so that the focus remains on learning. Silent fidget toys would be used to keep students hands busy while learning, so that the students can focus on learning and minimize distractions. Lastly, additional timers would be used to encourage time on task behavior, which would be rewarded with a short break.
