Students stand, balance, and bounce to learn! Teachers and researchers are finding, more and more, that allowing students choice and movement when it comes to seating arrangements increases positive behavior and improves academic goals. My project is to fund seating options for my 4th grade class. We are requesting different types tables and chairs so the class has options. You walk into the classroom and I tell you that you'll be sitting in the same desk for the rest of the year. That seems pretty terrible right? Well now imagine the possibility of choice. This will help the student who maybe needs a more quieter space to work at. This will help the student who needs to move their body frequently, so now they can sit on the balance ball. This will help the student who needs to work in a group so they can understand what is going on. With flexible seating (balance balls and standing table with a whiteboard as its surface, and foam mats), one day you might be practicing multiplication on a balance ball, the next day you might be standing up and writing your personal narrative straight onto the table, because it's a whiteboard as well! I want to continue to meet my students' diverse needs. My students are already given academic choices, I now want to give them the opportunities to have the choice of where they feel they can learn best in the room. This project will provide my class the opportunities to grow, empower each other, and produce quality work. Please consider helping my classrooms dream become a reality and create possibilities!
