Our career fair is designed to enable our English Language Learners easy access to career information. The exhibitors do not rely solely on printed materials. They bring photos, equipment to interact with, and career gear to try on. This all brings the careers to life for the students. The students want to remember this experience, to mark it in a special way. Help me capture the moment when a student first visualizes what they can become, what the future could be, by giving them a photo of this experience. OK, now on to how this will be incorporated into their Advisory lesson. 1. In the two weeks leading up to the fair each student will complete a short research project on careers. The project packet is designed so that it is easy to follow and the teachers will not need to add to it, simply guide the students. 2. The day before the fair each Advisory class will review and practice a "soft" skills lesson about networking and follow up. 3. The students will receive a career fair packet that has 5 sample questions to ask the exhibitors, and a section for reflections. 4. The photo that the students pose for will be used as part of their on-going Vision Board project. The board will be something they can keep, look at, share with their family, and use as a motivator.
