The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks will provide my young scholars with an opportunity to read a book in science class that is both relevant to the content and relates to them. The book will be read during our two biology units to emphasize the real world implications of cells and to reinforce nature of science concepts. There's a high need for culturally relevant text in science classes that will build up comprehension and analytical skills. Young scholars will be engaged in the reading as it takes place here in Maryland. By reading a complex text students will engage in meaningful discussions and will gain the skills needed to comprehend text and think critically.

About my class
