The use of technology in our classes is increasing each day and is a regular part of our students' everyday world. In Language Arts and Math, Chromebooks are used regularly for teaching concepts, completing assignments, writing essays, reviewing terms or concepts, and a multitude of other interactive classroom activities. In Study Skills we are working to support our students' classroom experiences and the Chromebooks allow us this opportunity. Students can not only work on Math XL assignments and write Language Arts Essays, but they can also watch Foreign Language videos, practice for Science Quizzes, complete Science Labs they have missed, review current events, and many other activities. Chromebooks optimize these learning opportunities because students have open access to all these activities along with teacher support in the Study Skills classroom. Chromebooks are used across the curriculum to teach, review, and support student learning. They address multiple aspects of the Utah Core Curriculum, particularly in Language Arts and Math. However, their utilization in Science and Social Studies is also extensive. Success in all of these core classes is the main focus of the Study Skills class. As a result, acquiring Chromebooks specifically assigned to the Study Skills classes allows us to provide unlimited support for the 300 plus students enrolled in Study Skills. They can make up work they missed, get help with a lesson they might not understand, obtain review information for upcoming tests, and many other learning activities. Chromebooks allow mobility so they can be shared between Study Skills teachers who would have access to the Chromebooks for all their classes. They last approximately seven years and beyond depending on battery life. Finally, Chromebooks can be replaced at fairly low cost and provide a technology option that will provide long term success for students.
