Some of my students have been learning to build and program smart devices using a raspberry pi and an attached GrovePi electronics board. I have students creating their own weather stations, programming data displays and sending their data to the web. I would like to expand this project to include more of my students, and will need a few more Raspberry Pis and electronics board kits to include all of my students in the project. Smart devices teach students about the Internet, data and programming. Students work in teams and learn to problem solve together both by building the hardware and by creating software programs that read, process and store environmental data.
