My 8th graders are mostly Hispanic students, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend higher education. The area is primarily socioeconomically disadvantaged. The students are thirsty for knowledge. They are inquisitive and hard-working, but they do not always have the money to buy classroom or project materials. Many of my students do not own a home computer and those that do very often do not have access to a color printer where they can print pictures for their notebooks or projects at home.
