At home my students have little to no access to books. There lives are full of television time, texting, and video games. If students aren't on a screen they are caring for younger family members. As a first year teacher my classroom library is made up of hand me down books. In trying to create a love for reading I am building a library full of new and engaging books. Books of all kinds for all my different learners. Currently I am trying to build up my graphic novel section of the library! I have found that if a good fit book comes along my students they will choose to read over screen time. Opening up new horizons and literature possibilities.
