The Issue to Address: Many high school students struggle with remaining focused throughout the day, especially those with ADHD. We teachers expect students to remain seated all day long, but this is not the ideal learning situation for all students. The Proposed Solution: I work hard to differentiate instruction for my students' varying learning needs; I want my classroom setup to reflect this approach by providing students standup tables for those who learn better while being more active. I got the idea from brainstorming ideas with students in my afternoon freshman English class who seem to be unable to remain seated and focused throughout the period. The students think standup tables will be helpful because they will provide the students with an opportunity to move around a bit more while still being focused on the task at hand: learning.
