My art students need to understand that all art is created in some time and place. These Replogle globes will give them a much better understanding than using the flat world maps which are very distorted. By having enough for each table to have a globe, I will be able to have my art students understand how the spread of the arts and trading worked between cultures/countries around the globe. They can see for themselves about how when Rome fell, Constantinople rose to power. When Constantinople fell, Rome was once more on the rise with the Renaissance. They will understand better why some people used whalebone to make art, while others used clay or perhaps wood. A further benefit for them is that so many of the parents of my children are on deployment or training in other parts of the world. These globes will help them feel closer to their parents, and allow them to talk with their peers about that. We can then bring in some of the art that their parents might have accessible to them. In many parts of the world, the art is gauged in thousands of years, rather than mere hundreds of years as in the U.S.
