Over the course of the past few months, I have started teaching chess to a small group of students during our lunch break. As the students' interested in chess has grown, they have began coming to school early, or staying after to participate in "chess club". We originally started with four students and participation has grown to about 10. Through chess, students are learning spatial awareness, critical thinking and life skills and I have seen tremendous growth in their attendance and academic performance. We are trying to purchase nine chess sets to compete in weekly chess tournaments. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
