I work with students who are struggling with reading, and are often at a level that is a year or more behind their peers. I co-teach in the classroom and run small group interventions to help bridge the reading gap. Many of my students need multiple pathways to reading success. With 77% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch, we have many children coming into school from high-poverty neighborhoods. It is absolutely essential that these students are equipped with the literacy skills they need in order to access content. The transition from 2nd grade to 3rd grade marks a developmental shift for children, as they transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. I work with struggling readers during this critical time.
