With many of my students, both special and general education, having trouble focusing and staying engaged in a lesson, there needs to be a change. That change is standing desks! I want to pilot alternative seating within my classroom to make sure that every child has the same chance at an excellent education. That dream can become a reality with these standing desks. I hope to bring this change to my school and district by showing the positive results of alternative seating. Traditionally in school you are told to "sit down, be quiet, and learn." This is ingrained in children's minds from a very young age, and I want to break that stigma. "Stand up, collaborate, learn, and have fun while doing it" is more like it! Research has shown an increase in attention, focus, and engagement, and a decrease in behavioral problems within the classroom. Just think, simply changing a student with behavioral, attention deficit, or learning disorders desk can change their whole outlook on school... so why not?! Let's keep our students engaged, focused, and excited to learn! Help me, help them!
