In order to receive a well-rounded music education, students need to have the opportunity to sing, play a variety of instruments, move, and be exposed to many different types of music from many backgrounds. Without melodic and rhythmic instruments in the music classroom, students become limited in their opportunities to create. These instruments including boomwhackers, xylophones, drums and the Glockenspiel can help students hear a tonal base for singing, create a steady beat to move to, improvise new rhythms and melodies to share with their classmates, and act as tools to help students express themselves. Best of all, all of these instruments can be used in grades pre-k through 5!
