I have a classroom filled with 23 lively, eager to learn 7 & 8 year old 2nd graders. My classroom has students from middle class 2 parent families, single parent families, foster families with parents who are incarcerated, and Spanish speaking families. While the children come from diverse backgrounds, they all have something in common: All are inspired to learn & all thirst for knowledge. 2nd graders are still emerging as readers and my kiddios are all over the board as far as skills levels. As I continue to work toward my Masters Degree in Literacy, I see the need for more literacy resources in my classroom to help my students read for the fun of it and to teach them how to read for comprehension, research, and knowledge. My hope is to get these kids to read for enjoyment and to read more often. I want for them to be able to be critical thinkers as they read and to use reading to broaden their horizons!
