We are an International Baccalaureate school, which means that we aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who think globally and act locally. One aspect of adequately preparing students to live, learn, and work in a rapidly globalizing world is teaching them to be tech savvy. This can be difficult given the fact that our classroom only has two computers, computers whose age makes them well-qualified for retirement. In the words of John Dewey, "If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow". Your donation to our project can help increase student engagement as well as student achievement. Imagine the enthusiasm of a first grader at getting to use an iPad instead of having to do pages in a workbook! Tasks that may ordinarily seem arduous or difficult to a child will suddenly become more interesting. Having a set of six iPad minis will help my students practice their research skills. It will also allow them to access a myriad of applications that will increase their math fact fluency, typing skills, and reading achievement. Your generous donation to our iPad mini project will help our class learn to inquire and inquire to learn.
