Students in lower elementary school are asked to sit in a seat and do their work. This has been found to an ineffective way for most student to learn, especially students with special needs. Research and experience has shown me this is not suitable for most children. My students thrive when they are able to move while they work. Children need to move and wiggle often throughout the day which is why I introduced active seating to my students this year. They love being able to wiggle, move, and rock while they work using our yoga balls, scoop rockers, and Hokki stools. At this time, we don't have enough active seating for all my students. I want my students to have access to active seating in the their inclusion classroom and the resource room. My students have asked many times if I can get more seating options for them and I would like to be able to provide that for my students. My project is kid-inspired to provide more active seating options for my students.
