Students need practice and play learning how things work physically in the real world. They need to try out new things by building and playing, until they make something really cool. With legos, students can build anything. As students become better builders, they can move on to design and build bridges, roller coasters, and marble mazes that solve a specific problem. I have chosen simple, but useful engineering toys and games that students can use to understand how to build and make things move. Lego creative blocks can be used to build almost anything. They are a good beginning tool just to get students building and so that they can see their own creativity. Then, students can move on to building more specific structures like marble mazes, bridges, and roller coasters. The circuit kits are important for students to understand how to make things move. All of these tools will be put into a kit that I can use in my classroom and other teachers can borrow an use with their students because engineering is more fun when we all build. Students will use challenge cards to help guide them and give them constraints. When students love to learn....they will learn and have fun while doing it. This is a hands on way to teach students the fun of designing, building, and allowing them to explore and see what they can make. How do we inspire future engineers? Teach them to build now.
