I adore my students because they are so full of light and optimism despite the constant obstacles working against them. Many of my students come from second, third, and forth generation poverty. In the Iron Triangle, students commonly come from unstable homes where violence and drug use are prevalent. My goal is to provide a peaceful and safe space for them where they know, every day, how loved, valued, and respected they are. If I can help to instill these values in them early in their lives, perhaps they can carry those messages of self-love and confidence into their adolescence and adulthood as they fight their way through life. Life in the Iron Triangle is a constant battle for my students, but in my classroom, we are creating beautiful experiences. My students inspire me not only to be a better educator, but have expanded my heart to feel more compassion and love than ever before. They deserve the best.
