Students are always asking for snack. Unfortunately, we don't have any snack to supply for them. In the past we were funded for snacks and for the first time in 5 years there is no snack. My students have asked for a healthy snack so that they are not hungry all afternoon. Students have told me, "I'm hungry and I can't think." We know that if students are hungry and preoccupied with empty stomachs it can greatly effect their learning. My students helped me in requesting Goldfish, granola bars, pretzels, and other snacks. It is important that students get their minds focused on the task at hand. About 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch, so in most cases parents are unable to provide snacks from home.
