It's another great year in fifth grade at SHES! I am SO very lucky to have a small class of 17 students this year! Overall, our school is pretty small(around 230 students). There are a total of 35 fifth graders with two fifth grade classes. In a very rural community, we have many students that are on free and reduced lunch. A few years ago, I began doing a novel study over the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The best part of this novel study is teaching students kindness and compassion for their fellow man (child :)). I was lucky enough to get 15 copies of the book in past years. I am hoping to get 21 more copies of the book so that both fifth grade classes can have enough for each child. Ultimately, I want to be able to take all of the fifth graders to see the movie that's coming out this Friday after we read the novel. It will be a great opportunity to compare and contrast novel to movie.
