My goal is for students to gain better organizational skills, have their materials with them every day, and for students to feel prepared and ready to learn. I have noticed that my 6th graders struggle with the organization of their materials. This has caused students to be tardy to class, come unprepared, and end up frustrated and overwhelmed when they finally get what they need. I am reworking my classroom organization systems so that more materials stay in class, and they are easily accessible to students so we can make the most out of every minute of our learning time. The storage bins will be used to store class sets of textbooks, student workbooks, and composition notebooks to reduce confusion and transition time between lessons or classes. I am also creating small supply bins that will contain a set of colored pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and glue sticks for their projects. In addition, I would like to include thesauruses and spelling dictionaries so students get in the habit of using these resources often. These working stations will hopefully streamline our classroom routines and better support my 6th grade students as they make the transition to middle school.
