My city-dwellers need exposure to the world! I work in a small charter school that serves a high-need community in a large urban area. Many of our students have special needs, have been low academic achievers, and are struggling to be successful both in school and in life. Many have never left their neighborhoods, most of them have never left their city, much less the state, and as an English teacher exposing them to a small segment of literature from around the world, I hope to draw them into these cultures that are so different from theirs through the use of multimedia and other technology. These kids need to get interested in learning to be able to not only finish high school but also to be successful in college.
